Why do I see a very different reading of hydrometer (2) and Brix (0-32) Refractometer?
I just calibrate a batch of 10 units of refractometer with distilled water then compared the readings of two refractometers and hydrometers and 10 have a difference of 3.61 to 4.11 BRIX units of concentration of knowledge sugar solution (1,046 gravity or 11.39 Brix). All tools, hydrometers and refractometers read zero (0) with distilled water. Both hydrometers lecturing consistent. The ten refractometers read within + / -0.25 BRIX determine the concentration of the solution. I guess I'm familiar enough with use refractometer for me this tool before time, many in school (laboratories). Testing and calibration was done in good condition ~ 22 ° C. What I I missing? After investigation, the units are defective. It is the most plausible to be the prism in the units improperly installed according to manufacturer support technician. Has temperature compensated? I'm not familiar with the calibration solution of refractometers. The calibration only soln I used is at a 28% Brix calibration. Luckily I found some information online to help you. Some refractometers require a calibration fluid than distilled water. In particular, 28 to 62% Brix, Brix 45 to 82%, and 58 Brix Refractometer 90% require a calibration fluid containing a certain amount of sugar. 28%, 45% and 58%, refer to the concentrations of sugar in solution measured by weight. A very simple method of do your own calibration solution would be to measure their blood sugar, ie 28 grams, then add 72 grams (72 cc) of distilled water give 100 grams of 28% sugar solution. Be sure to stir the solution to completely dissolve the sugar before using it for calibration. If you makes its measurements will be careful this close enough for working together.
